Vietnam IoT News 2025
1.Government-Driven Strategy & National Priorities
The government is actively steering the IoT ecosystem through clear strategic directives.
• Strategic Product Prioritization: In October 2025, the government officially classified Edge AI Cameras and Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) as strategic high-tech products targeted for priority development and deployment.
• Policy Encouragement for Infrastructure: A September 2025 government decree explicitly encourages private enterprises to invest in critical digital infrastructure, including data centers, 5G networks, and cyber-physical systems.
• National Digital Transformation Goals: As part of its broader digital transformation agenda, Vietnam aims to achieve a key milestone by the end of 2025: one IoT device per citizen. This is supported by the goal of providing a digital identity to the entire adult population.
2. Infrastructure Modernization
Robust infrastructure is being laid to support the massive connectivity demands of IoT.
• IPv6 Leadership: As of July 2025, Vietnam's IPv6 adoption rate has reached 65.5%, ranking it 7th globally. This widespread deployment of IPv6 is a critical foundation for connecting billions of IoT devices and the country is now pushing for a transition to "IPv6 Only" architectures.
• 5G Rollout: The rollout of 5G networks continues, providing the high-speed, low-latency connectivity essential for real-time IoT applications in industry and smart cities.
3. Industry & Investment Highlights
Strategic collaborations are fueling innovation and manufacturing in the IoT space.
• VNPT & Qualcomm Innovation Center (October 2025): The Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) partnered with Qualcomm to establish the VNPT-Qualcomm Innovation Center (VQEC). This center will focus on codeveloping smart electronic devices, networking equipment, and AI computing hardware—all core components of the IoT value chain.
• Apple's Planned Smart Home Device Production (October 2025): Apple is reported to be planning the production of its smart home devices, including sensor-equipped, autonomously moving tabletop robots, in Vietnam for the 2026-2027 period. This signals Vietnam's growing importance in high-value consumer IoT manufacturing.
